Incidence and Prevalence Rate of PMP in Europe Estimated
Acredit members Thale Dawn Patrick-Brown and Kjersti Flatmark have published a new paper on the prevalence and incidence of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) in Europe. Working with collaborators Norman Carr and Faheez Mohamed from Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (United Kingdom), the incidence rate for this rare cancer was calculated to be 3.2 persons per million per year in both Norway and the U.K. Extrapolating this incidence rate to the population of Europe using a novel waterfall method, it was estimated that a total of 11,736 persons were actively living with PMP in Europe in 2018.
